WORK HARD PLAY HARD CHANGE LIVES

Camp Courage is one of the nation's premier summer programs for children and adults with physical disabilities, communication disorders, or visual impairments. We hire 3 nurses each summer to provide health supervision at our camps in rural Minnesota.

Lakeside Camp
The Lakeside camp is for children and adults with physical disabilities. Campers come for sessions lasting from 5-8 days. Two nurses are assigned to the program and are the primary health care deliverers. The camp counselors are responsible for daily living personal cares. Nurses supervise health and provide professional services where indicated

Woodland Camp
The Woodland camp serves campers who have communication disorders and are on the caseload of a speech clinician in their home school. Sessions last from 1 week to 3 weeks. One nurse is assigned to this group. Again, camp counselors supervise children during activities and nurses are available for health supervision and any specific medical needs.

Other Duties
Nurses share on call duties one day in three. Our camp physician is available for consultation at all times and is in the health center for morning sick call. Nurses' primary responsibilities are to pour medications for campers, do evening rounds to check on campers ongoing health, run morning sick call to deal with any camper needs, and to be on call periodically for camper emergencies. Nurses are responsible for maintaining the health center and health center inventory.

Facilities
Camp Courage has 300 acres of lakeshore, wetlands, woods, and trails. We have horse riding facilities, tennis courts, indoor heated pool and gym, beaches, and boats. Programs include camping, crafts, photography, riding, recreation and sports, technology and film school, and environmental studies. Staff and staff families are welcomed and encouraged to take advantage of camp facilities during free time. Family housing is available where needed.

Other Information
Nurses can work from one month to 10 weeks. Nurses are paid salary plus room and board. All staff are covered by workers compensation and special risk insurance. We hire RNs, LPNs, and GNs, and nursing students.
