Job Description

Position Summary:
A Fencing Instructor is responsible for the supervision of campers, fencing-specific instruction, providing a safe and fun learning environment, and serving as a positive role model for campers.

Position Objective/Purpose:
We are seeking motivated team members who believe deeply in the organization’s mission and who display a record of achievement in effective supervision & management of youth, teaching fencing skills and techniques, building positive relationships and ensuring the safety and well-being of people of all ages.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Group supervision of campers with attention to: behavior and group management, health and safety, security, and personal and skill development
2. Ensure safety of campers and team members in and out of the fencing area
3. Enforce all fencing rules and regulations
4. Daily supervision of the fencing area
5. Daily fencing instruction to campers between the ages of 6 and 15 with different ability levels
6. Complete weekly awards for campers
7. Organize and prepare daily lesson plans in a fun and creative manner
8. Use effective classroom management skills to lead the activity and effectively create a fun environment where everyone feels included
9. Work effectively with fellow Activity Specialists and collaborate on daily responsibilities
10. Complete assigned paperwork
11. Serve as a positive role model to campers
12. Follow the ESF Code and maintain the ESF Look at all times
13. Exhibit ESF Core Values at all times and to adhere to all company policies
14. Have fun
15. Other responsibilities as assigned

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements:
1. Minimum of one year post graduate classroom teaching experience or 3 years comparable ESF experience
2. Previous experience working with children, examples include but are not limited to; babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant, religious education teacher
3. Previous camp counselor/teaching experience (preferred)
4. Fencing experience (required)

Certification Requirements:
1. Teaching certification (preferred)

Education Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree

Other Skill Requirements:
1. Outstanding communication skills which include the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with campers, their families, peers, leadership team and the larger community

Reporting Relationship(s):
1. Reports to and takes direction from Senior Camp Director. May also take direction from and is overall accountable to the Site Director.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of 35Ibs
2. Endurance to work outside and on your feet for 6-8 hours per day
3. Ability to respond to emergency situations which may require running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and climbing stairs.
