Job Description

Provide health care to meet the needs of camp staff and campers.
•Oversee daily medication management.
•Supervise and care for people admitted to the Health Center for care.
•Provide CPR and First Aid coverage as needed at designated times and locations.
•Provide direct care to staff within the scope of their skills, the camp’s health care manual, and treatment procedures.
•Check basic health status of incoming campers as outlined in the health care manual.
•Manage the collection, review and maintenance of health forms and records.
•Participate as a member of the crisis team.
•Supervise health assistant, if applicable.
•Support social emotional needs of campers such as homesickness while at camp.
Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of campers and staff.
•Set up the camp Health Center.
•Inventory and order all necessary medical supplies and equipment.
Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies
•Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout camp including camp vehicles, kitchen, offices, living units, program areas, out trips.
•Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed.
•Maintain the camp trauma bag and supplies.
•Work with other staff to minimize/eliminate health and safety risks.
•Inform camp director and health manager of health conditions of campers and staff members on regular scheduled basis.
Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp.
•Verify health history and examination.
•Verify emergency authorization.
•Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases.
•Conduct a health assessment.
•Keep all medications used by campers and staff.
•Notify food service staff, ad staff and counselors of all food allergies.
Provide superior client service to all campers, parents/families, staff, volunteers and vendors.
•Identify client needs, make suggestions, initiate and follow through with appropriate action.
•Notify camp director when parents should be advised of serious illness or accident.
•Be responsible for contacting parents concerning the status of their child’s health by telephone in the following situations: any injury requiring an x-ray, illness requiring an infirmary stay and emergency treatment/accident, etc.
Participate as a member of the camp staff team to support programs, special events, out trips, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
•Attend staff meetings and unit leader meetings.
•Assist where needed on camper arrival and departure days.
Physical Aspects of the Position:
•Ability to understand and implement safety regulations and procedures
•Ability, both visual and auditory, to identify safety hazards and monitor guest and staff behavior and enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures
•Ability to walk, stand, bend and stretch
•Ability to lift / assist campers and staff.
•Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders and parent letters.
•Ability to use a telephone
•Ability to maintain written record system.
•Ability to communicate with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns.
•Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury).
•Ability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain.
•Ability to observe and assess sanitation and safety conditions of the camp.

Job Requirements
