Job Description

The Nurse is responsible for overseeing the health care of all campers and staff during the camp season. S/he reports directly to the Assistant Director for Operations. This is a seasonal position, in-residence at Camp JRF in South Sterling PA during the summer months (June – August).

Responsibilities include:

I. Health Center Management
a. Organize Health Center
i. Keep building clean, organized and sanitary
ii. Maintain supplies and equipment
b. Supervise daily “sick call” of campers and staff
c. Sit on call during scheduled nights

II. Medication Management
a. Keep all medication organized, locked and secured in the health center or nurse’s closet
b. Dispense Rx medication as prescribed and PRN medication as needed to campers and staff
c. Fill and re-fill prescriptions as necessary at the local drug store
d. Chart all administered medication

III. Record Keeping
a. Ensure every camper and staff member has an accurate and complete health record on file
b. Maintain Daily Medication Record for every person that receives Rx and PRN medication
c. Record notations in the health record every time a person is seen by a nurse or goes to the local medical clinic

IV. Staff Orientation
a. Provide orientation session to camp staff
b. Contact local medical personnel

V. Opening/Closing Days
a. Intake all medication
b. Provide a health screen of all campers
c. Return un-used medication to campers on closing day

VI. Communication
a. Keep Directors and key Senior Staff members informed of all pertinent information
b. Communicate with parents (if instructed by the Directors)
c. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings

Job Requirements

• At least 21 years of age
• Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) with current licensure in the State of Pennsylvania
• Red Cross (or equivalent) First Aid/CPR/AED certification
• Clinical experience with children and teens
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Team player
• Great sense of humor
