Job Description

Make a difference and become a Camp Nurse at Experience Camps for Grieving Children

Please Note: Camp will take place at Green Oak Ranch, 1237 Green Oak Rd, Vista, CA 92081.

Who Are We: Experience Camps is a national, no-cost program for grieving children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. Our one-week, overnight summer camp programs help to reframe the experience of grief and empower children to develop invaluable coping skills that enable them to move forward with their lives.

What’s The Role?: Reporting to the Lead Camp Nurse, the Camp Nurse (CN) position is responsible for the medical care at camp. The CN evaluates and treats campers and staff for minor injuries and illnesses, supervises and ensures implementation of medication policies and procedures at camp, keeps a log of Health Center Visits, gives supportive advice to counselors and other camp staff if requested, and identifies health problems serious enough to require a physician’s attention.

  • Pre Camp: Prior to Camp starting, the CN will review all of our Camper’s Health History forms, making note of campers who may have higher medical needs at camp.

  • Setup of the infirmary: The CN will work with a small team of other RNs to set up our camp infirmary and all associated medical processes required to deliver the week of camp efficiently and effectively.

  • Delivery of Camp: During the week of Camp the CN will act as a first responder in the event of serious injury or illness of a Camper or staff member. The CN will also evaluate and treat Campers and Staff for minor injuries and illness. The CN will also lead the safe storage and timely dispensation of all Camper Medications during the week of Camp.

  • Post Camp: Once the Campers have left, the CN will audit infirmary supplies, passing on all appropriate records and data, and leave the infirmary and any used rooms clean and orderly.
