Minimum of 21 years old
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Certification Standard First Aid and CPR/AED
Current Wisconsin or Compac RN license
Desire and proven ability to work with youth in building confidence and self-esteem
Ability to work collaboratively with other nursing staff, operations and health center assistant to meet deadlines
Good character, integrity, adaptability and effective communicator
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
RESPONSIBLE TO: Operations Director
Uphold Manito-wish policies and rules and support the group living experience
Maintain Camp Manito-wish YMCA philosophies and high health care standards according to the Health Care Plan and Procedures 24 hours a day.
Meet American Camp Association and State requirements through implementation of Health Care plan and Procedures.
Maintain effective communication and collaboration among health center staff, seasonal and full time administration, staff and campers.
Serve as a medical resource for staff when planning their trips or calling in from the trail for guidance.
Screen campers at the beginning and end of each session including physical and emotional symptoms
Administer medications to campers including maintaining accurate and complete documentation.
Working with Seasonal Administration and Counselors/Trip Leaders to ensure that all campers receive their medications as prescribed by physicians.
Document treatments given to campers and staff in appropriate logbooks.
Maintain positive relations with other Nursing staff and the Health Center Assistant who provides administrative support to Nurses and administrative personnel in Boyce Administration
Integrate CampDocs into medical procedures and use to support health care and collaboration with consulting Pediatrician and area medical facilities.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with participants as related to age and skill level
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the program.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid, fire, evacuation and illness.
Housing is provided for RNs in the Health Center. At least one fte RN must be on site 24 hours a day. Night duty is compensated @ $50/night taking turns with other nurses
Schedule and time off is coordinated and approved by the Operations Director.
Camp is required to provide 2 fte nurses 24/7. We typically hire 2 full time nurses to provide the bulk of these hours but work with 10-12 local nurses to provide days off and night duty whenever the full time nurses cannot. Provide health care to 10-14 year old campers (4 weeks of Boys & 4 weeks of girls) along with camp staff and some outside school groups. Some Nurses in the past have elected to work for just the 4 weeks of Boys camp or Girls camp but we prefer the whole summer if possible.
