Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Debate Camp nurses are responsible for the care and supervision of all medical services. This care includes looking after ill or injured campers or staff, administering medication, communication with parents and staff, organization of medical information, medications and first-aid kits, as well as keeping records of camper visits. Overnight Camps will be staffed 24 hours of the day (either as on-call or on-site*) from check-in time Sunday to check-out time Saturday for campers and staff.  All associated housing and meals are provided.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

● Licensed as a registered nurse in the state/province in which the Camp is located

● Current and valid CPR and First Aid certifications

● Experience working with children and youth

● 25 years of age or older

● Ability to maintain health forms and paperwork

● Ability to maintain and administer all medications

● Ability to make decisions and take initiative

● Good communication skills

 

RESPONIBILITIES

● Assist in organizing and setting up the Camp Health Centre

● Attend pre-camp leadership training sessions as required

● Making sure inventory of First-Aid kits is supplied and maintained

● Preview and maintain camper health forms, inclusive of:

○ Health history, insurance verifications and consent for treatment

○ Immunization records

○ Social / emotional / behavioral concerns

● Maintain log of any medications administered during camp

● Keep a daily log of camper’s office visits and related parent communication

● Accept and store all prescription and over-the-counter drugs

● Administer prescription and over-the-counter drugs when necessary

● Assist in providing a staff orientation for the Camp Health Centre

● Manage overall camp Illness and injury situations for campers and staff

● Communication with parents and staff of camper’s illness or injury

  • Be a medical resource that bridges the gap between basic medical knowledge and emergencies
