Reports to: Camp Nurse

Position Purpose: To Assist the Camp Nurse in overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff.

Of note, summer 2022 may look different due to COVID. Some of the following could be adjusted, added, or changed to meet the needs of camp.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Under the direction of the Camp Nurse, assist in providing health care and first aid services to meet individual needs of campers and camp staff

1. Assist with daily medication management.

2. Help supervise and care for people admitted to the Rest Cabin.

3. Provide CPR and First Aid coverage as needed at designated times.

4. Provide direct care to campers and staff within the scope of their skills, Clearwater’s health care policies and procedures, and standing orders.

5. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records by utilizing daily medical log in CampMinder for treatment and medications.

6. Assist with distribution and resupply of first aid kits throughout camp.

2. Assist Camp Nurse with the screening of all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp, including for out-of-camp trips.

1. Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases and suitability to participate in the trip.

2. Prepare medications for distribution by camp staff.

3. Assist Camp Nurse in providing a staff orientation of camp medical services to the camp staff.

4. Supervise sanitary conditions throughout camp.

1. Observe camper and staff daily cleanliness in the dining hall and other areas throughout camp.

2. Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Camp Nurse

Other Job Duties:

• May accompany campers off-site for clinic visits .

• Promote healthy behaviors.

• Order supplies as directed from Nurse.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience in both children and adult illness/injury care.

• Community health knowledge.

Qualifications:

• CNA experience or junior level in nursing school preferred.

• CPR and First Aid certified or ability to complete before camp begins and/or experience in first aid and emergency management.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Desire to work with children and young adults.

Essential Functions:

• Ability to lift/assist campers and staff.

• Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters.

• Ability to use a computer to maintain the written record system.

• Capability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain.

• Observe and assess sanitation and safety conditions of the camp.

• Ability to communicate with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns.

• Possess endurance to meet emergency needs.

• Ability to drive to off-camp health provider, physician, or emergency treatment locations if other qualified staff are unavailable.

• Willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours.

• Capable of carrying out tasks with daily exposure to the sun, heat, cold, and other environmental conditions.

• Practice personal self-care in order to be able to fulfill responsibilities.
