Job Description

Night Shift Nurse 

The camp night shift nurse is an administrative position that is responsible for the health and well-being of students and staff. You are allowed to sleep while on shift as long as you have a radio on a next to you and are ready to respond to any calls that may come in. Our wellness center has a nurse on duty room with a bed.  

Reports to: Head Nurse and Summer Camp Director 

Pay: $22 an hour  

Shift: 7:00pm – 7:30am Thursday, Friday, Saturday 





  • One season commitment required. 

  • California-RN or LVN license. 

  • Experience in pediatric, school, camp, outpatient or emergency care is preferred. 

  • Positive role model for instructors. Lead by example. 

  • Ability to effectively train instructors during orientation on infirmary protocol. 

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate (verbally and written) concerns, feedback and information to staff, administration and teachers. 

  • Must be a positive, assertive leader with strong supervisory and management skills. 

  • Understand and apply pertinent personnel policies, laws, rules and regulations. 

  • Must have demonstrated good judgment and decision-making ability. 

  • Must be approachable and friendly. 

  • Must have initiative and be able to work with minimal supervision. 

  • Must be 100% organized. 

  • Must be flexible and diverse in philosophies to work with various types of school groups. 



  • Relay pertinent information to staff in a clear and concise manner. 

  • Carry out daily activities and operations of Pali Camp. 

  • Assist in color codes called on the radio. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 










  • Review camper health histories with emphasis on current illnesses, allergies and physical limitations. 

  • Complete fast, accurate assessments of health complaints. 

  • Communicate health needs of students to instructors and administration, as needed. 

  • Contact parents of students that require in-depth care, complicated meds or are unique situations. 

  • Administration of prescription and over-the-counter medication, keeping in mind the five rights 

  • Provide first aid for minor injuries and illnesses 

  • Refer more serious issues to the appropriate medical personnel. 

  • Maintain accurate health logs and incident report logs. 

  • Communicate with parents in regards to on-site health concerns. 

  • Maintain a clean, healthy and warm environment in the infirmary. 

  • Stay up to date on staff personnel medical information and history.  Relay any pertinent information that effects job performance to the Director immediately.
