Job Description

Capital Camps is located in the beautiful Catoctin Mountains just 75 miles from Washington DC and Baltimore. We are the premier Jewish community overnight camp in the region, though you do not have to be Jewish to come here. We’re looking for nurses and doctors who can commit to two or more weeks at our health center- known around camp as the Mirpa’ah or the Mirp.

Camp provides on-site housing accommodations and Kosher meals and snacks every day. If you have children, we also provide child care through our “Staff Kids” program, so they can enjoy being a camper while knowing you’re close by. During your time off at camp, you’ll also have access to all the stuff that makes camp so much fun! We have a few Mirp Staff pool/lake days or visits to the high ropes course throughout the summer as a group, but you’re also welcome to explore these amenities on your own or with your family. For a more detailed list of what’s available, check out the activities section on our webpage: https://capitalcamps.org/fun-at-camp/

Job Requirements
As a Nurse on our staff your responsibilities will include:
· Assessing campers' general health when they first arrive and leave camp per American Camp Association (ACA) guidelines.
· Taking 2-4 medication administration shifts per day at mealtimes, midday, or bedtime.
· Working at least one “Sick Call” each day. This is the time when campers experiencing a non-emergent medical issue can come to the Mirp to be triaged and treated by our fabulous team. Most of what we see is the standard bumps and bruises, splinters, common colds, or tummy aches. We also have a physician on staff to evaluate more serious conditions.
· Completing charting.
· Serving as a camper’s medical advocate at the local ER if they require X-rays, imaging, or other services we are not able to provide on-site.
· Spending a couple of nights a week “on-call” at the Mirp. If any campers staying at the health center overnight, you will spend the night there to provide care as necessary. If no campers are staying overnight, you will stay in your room with a walkie-talkie on for emergency calls in the night.
· Responding to emergencies as necessary.
· Supporting camp in maintaining COVID regulations like masking or assisting with crowd control during regular COVID tests.
