Job Description

Raquette Lake Camps, one of the finest residential summer camps in America, is seeking Nurses for both our Girls Camp and our Boys Camp who have great energy, nursing skills, communication skills and warmth, who will work as part of our well-staffed medical team. Our Nurses are also members of our senior staff, fully immersed in our dynamic camp program. Being a Raquette Lake nurse could be an excellent break from the usual hospital grind, with the opportunity to live, breathe and recharge in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. Our nurses are encouraged to immerse themselves in the camp culture for a rewarding summer experience.

“The Infirmary”

Each camp has its own infirmary with exam rooms, sick rooms, private and semi-private accommodations, a/c, kitchen, laundry and wi-fi. The Infirmary is staffed 24/7 with nurses, doctors and EMTs, and it’s where we take care of all the children and staff.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed in NYS, or have the ability to be licensed, as an RN, NP or LPN
  • Primary care experience working with children and adults is desirable, but being a team player is paramount
  • Ability to originate, update, monitor health care, maintain records and implement the health care plan
  • Current CPR and First Aid
  • Willingness to live and work in a camp environment, including some night shifts.
  • Preference given to those available June 15 – August 10 (partial slots may be available)

Nursing Team Responsibilities Include:

  • caring for ill or injured patients who are admitted to the Health Center
  • handling health calls throughout the day
  • follow appropriate medical routines including recordkeeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications and utilizing approved standing orders
  • sorting and dispensing medication to campers
  • responding to any emergency which may arise at camp
  • maintaining health logs for each camper and staff member
  • make appointments, when necessary, with medical/dental personnel in the community, and possibly transporting campers to doctors/dentists/urgent care/hospitals, as well as making pharmacy runs in town
  • encouraging and promoting health maintenance and accident prevention
  • providing a friendly face to the campers and staff
  • check and issue first aid kits as needed
  • communicate with camp leadership and parents concerning camper health status as needed.
