Job Description

Merri-Mac is a traditional Christian overnight girls summer camp in Western North Carolina hiring nurses for summer 2025.  An infirmary of three registered nurses and typically one nursing assistant suports 300 girls ages 6-16.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Loyalty to camp, its management, policies and ideals.
  2. Responsible to authority of camp directors and assistant directors.
  3. Maintain a safe and quality cabin experience.
  4. Provide for the exceptional care and safety of all campers.
  5. Ensure that camp is consistent with American Camping Association (ACA) standards and operating procedures.
  6. Any other duties that the director deems necessary for the operation of camp.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Provide basic care for campers and staff throughout the camp session
  2. Administer and electronically chart daily medications 4x day
  3. Conduct 3 “sick calls” per day, administer any necessary basic first aid and provide assessment of whether further medical evaluation is needed
  4. Assist in transporting campers to and from primary care facilities or hospital
  5. Work in conjunction with directors to communicate with parents regarding camper health issues
  6. Participate in “on call” shifts in the infirmary on alternating nights, should acute/urgent situations arise after hours
  7. Maintain organized, stocked infirmary 

Nurses live on property at camp and each nurse has their own room. Our infirmary team is at camp for a two week session, and have one day off and one additional night off per week. Nurses rotate being on call at night. Finally nurses log all medicine and treatments in our online camper care program. 

Job Requirements
  1. Must possess current CPR (including pediatric), and Basic First Aid certifications (or the equivalent). Must possess current LPN, RN or MD license 
  2. Must be a mature and competent leader willing to take responsibility for a group of campers.
  3. Must possess sound character, integrity and an eagerness to work with camp aged children.
  4. Must have their own computer or tablet and be competant in its use.
