Position Overview

Camp Kawanhee for Boys is seeking a compassionate, organized, and experienced Overnight Camp Nurse to support the health and well-being of our campers and staff throughout the summer season. The Overnight Camp Nurse plays a vital role in maintaining a safe camp environment, providing routine and emergency medical care, managing medications, and promoting healthy living within our residential camp community.

This is a residential position requiring overnight availability in the camp’s health center.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

• Provide direct care for campers and staff, including first aid, illness assessment, and emergency response.

• Administer and document all prescribed medications according to camp policy and state regulations.

• Monitor and care for campers with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, allergies, diabetes).

• Respond promptly to nighttime medical needs and emergencies.

Health Center Management

• Maintain accurate and confidential health records for campers and staff.

• Organize, inventory, and restock medical supplies and medications.

• Ensure health center cleanliness and compliance with state and local health regulations.

• Coordinate with local medical facilities and emergency services when necessary.

Communication & Collaboration

• Communicate clearly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding camper health concerns.

• Collaborate with camp leadership on health policies, communicable disease prevention, and risk management.

• Provide guidance and training to staff on basic first aid, medication distribution procedures, and health protocols.

Preventative & Community Health

• Monitor for signs of communicable illness and implement prevention protocols.

• Promote hydration, hygiene, and healthy habits among campers.

• Support mental and emotional well-being in partnership with camp leadership.

Qualifications

• Current RN or LPN license (Maine license preferred; eligibility for Maine licensure required).

• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.

• Experience in pediatric, emergency, school, or camp nursing preferred.

• Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.

• Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.

• Comfort living and working in a rustic, outdoor camp environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk across uneven terrain and navigate a wooded camp setting.

• Ability to respond quickly to emergencies at any hour.
