Camp nurses are responsible for the care and supervision of all health related services. This care includes looking after ill or injured campers or staff, administering medication, communication with parents and counselors, organization of medical information, medications and first-aid kits, as well as keeping records of camper visits. Both camps will be staffed 24 hours a day. There is also an onsite Doctor who is available daily for medical evaluations. Health care staff receive a salary, room and board, free camp for their children and a travel allowance. Health care staff receive two days off (48 hours, which can be split, or be two days off in a row) and an additional evening off each week.
All staff members go through an intensive pre-camp orientation developed from more than seventy years of counselor training at Indian Acres Camp for Boys and Forest Acres Camp for Girls. More than half of the staff members return each year. Careful staff selection and training ensure a caring, supportive and encouraging environment in which campers grow, learn and have fun. Whether supervising, counseling, coaching or teaching, staff members provide sensitive leadership and quality instruction. An M.D. and an R.N. are resident members of the camp staff. A hospital is only 10 miles from camp.
