Job Description
Happy Hollow Summer Camp, which hosts 8 weeks of overnight camp for children ages 7-14, is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and caring Camp Nurse to provide a safe and memorable experience for 100 campers and 30 staff. Our Camp Nurse is responsible for implementing the overall camp health care plan during each week of camp. Duties include dispersing medication, responding to medical emergencies, and caring for sick and injured campers and staff. The ideal candidate should be an excellent multitasker with a genuine passion for working with and caring for young people.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Licensed in Indiana as an RN preferred (CNA, NP, PA, MA, LPN also acceptable based on experience)
  • Experience with children and young adults desirable
  • Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor health care, maintain records, and implement the health care plan
  • Current CPR and first aid certifications
  • Desire to work and live in a camp community
  • Ability to pass a background check

Job Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES:

To be the health manager for the camp; supervise health and cleanliness standards; work with executive director and staff; and help provide adequate physical health conditions for all.

Ensure each staff member and camper has on file a health history. That each camper has on file a health history and examination form signed by an HCP Practitioner or Doctor
Set up system for health screening for arriving campers and staff
Conduct inventory of supplies and place orders when necessary
Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including recordkeeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
Coordinate coverage of health care center if off camp property
Make schedule for dispensing daily medications and communicate that with counselors
Make appointments, when necessary with medical personnel in the community
Check and issue first-aid kits weekly
Participate in and lead specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp health and safety, CPR, first aid, and use of universal precautions for infection control
Keep accident/incident reports that can be used for risk-management assessment
Prepare a summary and evaluation of the camp season including inventories, staff evaluations, camper reports on health problems, and make recommendations for the following season
Monitor health of all staff including Kitchen staff
Monitor/evaluate camp procedures, facilities, and conditions and suggest modifications that would create more healthful conditions in the camp.
At the end of each week clean and sanitize health center and fill first aid kits for next session
Live in the health center
Communicate with Executive Director on health of campers and staff as needed
These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required
