Job Description

 

Position Purpose: Provide health services to the staff, campers, and volunteers of the Silver Lake Summer community during the SigmaCamp program. Provide basic first aid and treat minor illnesses. Administer medications to those under 18 years of age. Maintain health and medication records. Contribute to a positive, helpful Christian community 

Essential Job Functions: 

  1. Administer medications according to state law following camp Standing Orders and/or individual Physician Orders. 

  • Maintain health and medication records in CampDoc and Ultracamp. 

  1. Treat minor illness and injury. 

  • Assess, triage and initiate treatment in emergency situations. 

  • Provide physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual assistance to staff, volunteers, and campers. 

  1. Maintain hygienic environment in the Health Center. 

  • Assist with the maintenance of camp environment in accordance with state health regulations. 

  • Note areas of safety and health concern, offer suggestions for change. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 





  • Current RN Licensure in Connecticut 




  • Current CPR certification for the Professional Rescuer (must be administered by American Red Cross or American Heart Association) 




  • Malpractice Insurance (if applicable) or Professional Liability Coverage (if applicable) 




  • Experience working with children (preferred) 




  • Working knowledge of CT Health and Safety Laws and Practice 





 



Physical Aspects of the Job: 





  • Available 24 hours X 7 days during the session (will be provided with 2-way radio, and we encourage nurses to take breaks on site, go to waterfront, etc., and be available to programs during med. times or after meals.  NOT all day long.) 




  • Ability to work outside in variable weather conditions. 




  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. 




  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. 




  • Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
