HEALTHCARE MANAGER/NURSE

HIDDEN VILLA SUMMER CAMP

Our mission is to provide engaging educational experiences for people of all ages to inspire a deep connection and abiding respect for the natural world and each other.

Hidden Villa Summer Camp is seeking a Healthcare Manager/Nurse for our 2021 summer. Hidden Villa is a non-profit, public benefit corporation with a 60-year history, focusing on environmental education. We use our organic farm, wilderness, and community to teach and provide opportunities to learn about the environment and social justice. Hidden Villa stretches over 1,600 acres of open space in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about 40 miles south of San Francisco.

Position Title: Healthcare Manager/Nurse
Reports To: Youth Development Manager/Camp Program Logistics Manager Exempt/Non-Exempt: non-exempt
Onsite: Yes

Position Summary

Hidden Villa’s Healthcare Manager will supervise our health and cleanliness standards; work with camp directors and staff; and provide excellent physical health conditions for all. You will work with the Camp Director to oversee staff and camper healthcare check-in procedures, manage and administer medications to campers as needed/prescribed.

This position must live onsite during their employment at Hidden Villa.

Specific Responsibilities

1. Ensure that each staff member and camper has on file a health history form, as required. 2. Provide proper nursing intervention regarding camper and/or staff illness, condition, or emergency care and make appropriate referrals and provide follow up care as needed.
3. Administer medication and treatment to campers throughout their stay at camp.

3. Lead staff training pertaining to camp health and safety and the use of universal precautions for infection control.
3. Conduct health screening & medication check-in for arriving campers & staff.
4. Conduct an inventory of supplies, place orders when necessary, while ensuring timely arrival of supplies.

5. Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including record keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved First Aid Treatment procedures.
6. Coordinate and communicate coverage of the health hut and camp office.
8. Check, re-stock and issue first-aid kits.

9. Prepare a summary and evaluation of the camp season including inventories, camper reports on health problems, and make recommendations for the following season.
10. Monitor the health of all staff and ensure proper staff health record keeping.
11. Monitor/evaluate camp procedures, facilities, and conditions and suggest modifications that would create more healthful conditions in the camp.

12. Ability to live on-site and to be onsite daily to review camp health practices and consult with/provide advice for other camp staff regarding any medical concerns.
13. Serve as a member of the all camp management team.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

1. Ability to drive to doctor or emergency treatment locations.
2. Must be able to get to remote locations on Hidden Villa property.
3. Read and understand prescriptions, health forms and standing orders. 4. Live on-site for the full camp season (June 1-August 10).


Benefits: $20/hour. On-site housing and meals provided.

Job Requirements
Desired qualifications

● Licensed as a Registered Nurse
● New Nursing graduates welcome
● Current CPR, First Aid, AED Certifications required
● Experience with children and young adults
● Ability to work with little supervision
● Ability to assist in emergency situation (fire, evacuation, illness or injury)
● Ability to originate, update and monitor health care, maintain records, and implement health care plan
● Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
● At least 21 years of age

Physical Requirements

Regular and consistent attendance and the ability to sit and work with hands and arms for at least eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week.
•Physical ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, walk, crawl, push and pull items weighing up to 20 pounds.

•Work overtime occasionally at the last minute.
•Stand and move throughout the office.
•Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
•Have consistent and reliable attendance.
•Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills in English;
•Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in English written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. •Write routine reports and correspondence.
•Meet daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly and other deadlines consistently.
•Work under pressure with changing, ambiguous priorities.
•Communicate effectively and promptly to clients or employees of the organization.

•High level of manual dexterity to adeptly type and use computer equipment.
•Auditory and visual skills – Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. •Ability to work overtime occasionally at the last minute.
