Camp Sloane YMCA is looking for nurses! We place a strong emphasis on the overall wellness of campers and staff members as well as care for the sick and injured. As a summer camp, we make a point that every health lodge staff member participate in the larger social life of our camp and have fun as a part of our Camp Family.
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (You will need a CT license which we reimburse for if not currently licensed in CT)
- Experience in pediatrics, emergency room, pre-hospital environment or as a school nurse preferred.
- The ability to relate effectively to children, parents and college-age staff is essential.
Dates of Employment: We are looking for full-time Resident Nurses for 2-week contracts (June 26-July 9, July 10-23, July 24-Aug 6 or Aug 6-20) and part-time nurses to help fill in some shifts throughout the summer.
Salary: $1200/wk, $200/day. Includes meals and housing in a private room with a private bathroom in the health lodge and FREE camp for your kids.
Key responsibilities:
- Attend to illnesses or injuries of both campers and staff per written protocols
- Work within written protocols and scope of practice. Actively seek out definition from the Health Lodge Supervisor and Camp Physician whenever necessary
- Administer both over-the-counter and prescription medications to campers and staff per written protocol at designated times
- Maintain accurate and up to date records of medication administration as well as illness and injury care delivered to campers and staff per written protocols
- Report illness, injury or abuse to proper authorities when necessary per written protocol
- Maintain a watchful presence to the overall wellness of campers and staff
- Work directly with the Camp Physician, EMS, fire department and hospital either by phone or in-person when such need may arise to attend to the illness or injury of a camper or staff
- Live in the health lodge and attend to camper illness and injury as the on-duty overnight registered nurse
- Attend morning supervisory staff meetings and other camp meetings and functions when assigned to do so by the Health Lodge Supervisor or Camp Director.
- Attend meals at the Camp Sloane dining hall if directed to do so by the Health Lodge Supervisor or Camp Director
- With the help of the entire health lodge staff, maintain cleanliness and order within the health lodge to standards set by the Health Lodge Supervisor.
