Job Description

Camp Manito-wish YMCA is located in Northern Wisconsin in the quaint tourism community of Boulder Junction. We have been in operation since 1919 and offer multiple programs including Summer Camp, Outpost Wilderness Tripping, Family Camp and Leadership Programming. Our property is located on 300 wooded acres on the shores of Boulder Lake and we are surrounded by the 225,000-acre Northern-Highland American Legion State Forest and nearly 200 lakes and rivers, which means there are an abundance of opportunities available for our campers exploration. Our staff is a wonderful group dedicated to enriching character and leadership skills, and we are focused on promoting youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

DATES: Full summer would be June 1-August 26. These dates are flexible as we also need additional help on Opening Days and Closing Days, as well as other busier and gap dates throughout the season. We are interested in learning your availability.

SALARY: Current starting salary is $180/day with an additional $75 for an overnight shift. Housing is provided for RNs. At least one RN must be on site 24 hours a day.

CAMPER DISCOUNTS: We are able to offer a minimum of 40% discount off Summer Camp registration fees to nurses who work a minimum of 14 days. We still have spots available for both Boys and Girls Camp.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:




  • Minimum of 21 years old

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills

  • Certification Standard First Aid and CPR/AED

  • Current Wisconsin RN license

  • Desire and proven ability to work with youth in building confidence and self-esteem

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other nursing staff, operations and health center assistant to meet deadlines

  • Good character, integrity, adaptability and effective communicator

  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with participants as related to age and skill level

  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the program.

  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid, fire, evacuation and illness.

  • Must be able to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.



SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Maintain Camp Manito-wish YMCA philosophies and high health care standards according to the Health Care Plan and Procedures 24 hours a day.

  • Meet American Camp Association and State requirements through implementation of Health Care plan and Procedures.

  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration among health center staff, seasonal and full time administration, staff and campers.

  • Serve as a medical resource for staff when planning their trips or calling in from the trail for guidance.

  • Screen campers at the beginning and end of each session including physical and emotional symptoms.

  • Administer medications to campers including maintaining accurate and complete documentation.

  • Working with Seasonal Administration and Counselors/Trip Leaders to ensure that all campers receive their medications as prescribed by physicians.

  • Document treatments given to campers and staff in appropriate logbooks.

  • Manage appropriate paperwork (electronic and otherwise) including maintaining privacy for campers and staff in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.

  • Maintain positive relations with other Nursing staff and the Health Center Coordinator who provides administrative support to Nurses and administrative personnel in Boyce Administration.

  • Integrate CampDocs into medical procedures and use to support health care and collaboration with consulting Pediatrician and area medical facilities.

  • Understand and commit to the Manito-wish Mission, Vision and Commitment Statements.

  • Understand and commit to the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

  • Understand and commit to all policies related to Child Abuse Prevention directed by Camp Manito-wish YMCA .

  • Provide opportunities for camper/staff discussion centering on Camp’s mission and personal growth.

  • Uphold rules and policies associated with Camp Manito-wish YMCA and support the group living experience.

  • Capable of effective and sustained mental, emotional, and social interaction with others in the camp’s fast-paced, youth-centered, community living environment.

  • Able to maintain mental, emotional, and social resiliency (such as handling stressful situations appropriately) needed for the job in a fast-paced, interactive environment.

  • RN daily schedule is determined over a 24 hourbasis

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
